This year, the Economic Justice Australia Members Conference is happening on 7-8 May 2024 in Meanjin, Brisbane at the HopgoodGanim office (Level 8, Waterfront Place, 1 Eagle Street).

Day 1 will run from 9am to 5:30pm, and Day 2 will run from 8:30am to 4pm. Registration includes a conference dinner following the Day 1 sessions. We are pleased to announce that this year the conference will be FREE for members, and virtual attendance is an option for members looking to pop in and out of sessions as availability permits.

Sessions will include:

  • Have the 2023 changes to DSP Impairment Tables made a difference?
  • Just How Special is Special? Best approaches to Special Circumstances arguments
  • Communicating Casework Experience for Policy Reform – Government & Funders, Users of the Social Security System & the General Public
  • Lessons from Casework Outreach
  • Ongoing challenges addressing the intersection of DV and member of a couple rules
  • Helping your clients navigate self-incrimination and exposure to prosecution
  • Can we expand social security support beyond specialist legal services?

There will also be a dedicated ‘Just Hearing’ session. Just Hearing is an interactive training presentation that explores issues faced by people with lived experience of mental ill-health and their interactions with the legal system. Just Hearing is a collaboration between Canberra Community Law, Legal Aid ACT and Rebus Theatre.
